New Franklin, Ohio is a decent sized city with almost 14,000 people, yet it remains unrepresented with its own unique symbol.
We can change that.

A GREAT CITY DESERVES A GREAT FLAG!
New Franklin, Ohio in Summit County is a beautiful city with a nice culture, vibrant landscapes and lakes, and kind people. Yet, there is no official flag that represents all that. A unique, bold and stylistic symbol could not only enshrine our beautiful city's scenery, but also bring our people much closer together.
This project was started by Dakota D Griffin, an autistic individual and proud citizen of New Franklin who wants to give back to our community in the best way he knows how, with meaningful design.

Sailboat Flag
DAKOTA'S CONCEPT DESIGN
The Sailboat Flag is Dakota's personal design for New Franklin. It encapsulates much of the broad culture of our city in its shapes, colors and overall image.
Basic meanings:
Orange - Sunset/Sunrise, Adventure, Native American Past, Youth of New Franklin
Green - New Franklin's Development and Growth, Wilderness, Woodlands, Elders of New Franklin
Blue - New Franklin's Present & Future, Portage Lakes, Calm and Peaceful Atmosphere
White - The Spirit of the City and Navigation
When split into four pieces, each piece of the sailboat can represent each ward of the city.
If you're political, all seven pieces of the design can represent the seven council members of New Franklin.
Tri Field Flag
DAKOTA'S OLD DESIGN
This is Dakota's original design for New Franklin. It has much of the same meanings as the Sailboat Flag in a different layout. He changed his design after negative feedback from the community.
Basic meanings:
Orange - Sunset/Sunrise, Adventure, Native American Past, Youth of New Franklin
Green - New Franklin's Development and Growth, Wilderness, Woodlands, Elders of New Franklin
Blue - New Franklin's Present & Future, Portage Lakes, Calm and Peaceful Atmosphere
White - The Spirit of the City and Navigation
When the three fields are looked at in a clockwise manner, you can interpret that as the history of New Franklin, as each of the three fields also can represent a different time period in New Franklin's history.
The orange and green in both designs can be seen as the Franklin Township and the New Franklin Village merging into the current City of New Franklin.

Why?
That's a good question. New Franklin is a mostly peaceful, quiet and safe place to live. That can be inspiring for at least some people, and some may even want to take pride in that. For Dakota, it's a matter of not only pride, but love for our city and he wants to express his love for New Franklin in the best way that he knows how. Don't you?
